Well, I was all gung ho about trying out Fedora 10. Needless to say, it lasted as long as it took me to burn another OpenSuse dvd, and reboot the machine.
The first problem that I had was with my ATI Graphics card. Once the initial screen was passed, the monitors went blank. Turns out, the only way to get the graphical installer to come up was to remove the ati video card and then use the default onboard card. I was amazed that Fedora has still not fixed the issues that they have had with ati cards for the last while.
I bore on with the install, even though at this point I already had my misgivings. Overall the install process was fine, have to say the Ubuntu is by far the easiest, where as OpenSuse can be more complex, but provides the greatest options. My first pass thru, I chose to customize the installed packages. FAIL. The installer died for no rhyme or reason. Garrrrr, so on pass number two I choose nothing other than the defaults. In actuality, I was not going to go through with the install, but the install had already wiped my harddrive.
Finally finishing the install I was underwhelmed with the results. SELINUX, is nothing but a pain, and overall it is just lacking. Needless to say, I have not been a Fedora fan since the split from Redhat, and I continue not to be to this day. I had hoped to be impressed with the final product, but sorry guys no such love. Having met some of the people that work on the project it disappoints me to say it, but it is true.
Now I am back to running OpenSuse 11. I was hoping to hold out until 11.1, but I will upgrade in a short while when it is available. For all intents and purposes, I would prefer to run slackware, but I just do not have the time. However, OpenSuse is a distro that I like, and is not so dumbed down that I feel I cannot configure it. There is also the plus that there are seperate streams for various apps, so I am not forced to use an outdated version of Open Office if I do not want.
Think the Fedora guys need to take a look at the other distros and head back to the drawing board.
It would be useful to get some specific bug reports on the problems you are facing. It is hard to find the source of the problem without a proper bug report in http://bugzilla.redhat.com
I request you to do this.

Rahul,
I attempted to perform the install again, this time I left my video card in, and performed a text install. The system came up to the command line, but there was still an issue with the driver for the ATI video card. I had actually taken great notes, but by the time I had everything working, at least video, I was too fed up. I had to perform a system udpate, then install the ATI driver, as the not ATI driver still did not work.
Maybe next time I will have the patience to open a ticket, but I did search bugzilla, and I was not the only one to have this problem You would think something like this would be caught before doing a gold build.
Oh well.. enough Fedora for me… Still like RHEL, but Fedora is still a major drag.
I think you mean gung ho, not gun ho. Wiki has it pretty much right.
